Earlier this month I went to my first ever furry convention, Calfurry in Calgary, with Fen and a couple of our friends. Though we promised ourselves that we wouldn’t buy I fursuit of any kind, I came across a partial for a collie that I fell for so damn hard. It was pricey, but I had the funds and it was all I could think of, so… I bought them!
Malbec was designed and made by Rexy Jackal, an amazing artist and maker out of Alberta, Canada. I love everything about them. Their floppy left ear is weighted, and they come with an adjustable velcro tongue and eyelids. Wearing them has been one of the most affirming experiences I’ve had in years! As soon as I put them on at Calfurry I felt confident, comfortable, social, and, strangely, a large degree of gender euphoria.
I was feeling so good, in fact, that Fen and I even did some square dancing and participated in fursuit rodeo games! It was an amazing weekend.

When it came to getting the first bit of art done for Malbec, I knew exactly who I wanted to go to. Wolfbugg! This past Halloween season he did a YCH for me of my sad boy opossum, Earl Grey, being shoulder carried by Ghostface, which I absolutely adored, and I’ve wanted to commission him for more ever since.
Once again, he did NOT disappoint!
I give you the first official art of my new fursona, Malbec, from the ever awesome wolfbugg!

Be sure to follow wolf.bugg on instagram, and PLEASE consider commissioning him if you can! He’s saving up to go to his first furry convention next month!
You can also follow rexyjackal on instagram too! His commissions are pretty swamped but he tables at Canadian furry conventions pretty regularly and runs a telegram channel with updates about when slots open up.
As for me, keep checking back here for more content and be sure to connect with me on Bluesky if you haven’t yet! I’m currently hard at work writing my next book, Carry On: Unpacking Your Internalized Transphobic and Queerphobic Baggage, and I’ll next be fursuiting at Fur-Eh in Edmonton this upcoming July.
